Northeast Pa - Red Light City USA

Northeast Pa now has a new name, I'm calling it Red Light City USA. If any of you have ever tried to get through any town in NEPA, you are bogged down by red light after red light from corner to corner from town to town. You go about 300 yards and WHAM, a red light! You go another 300 yards and BAM, a red light. Another 300 yards and you guessed it WHAM, BAM, THANK YOU MAM another red light. I can't take it anymore! It takes me 45 minutes to an hour to get from one end of town to another. If I want to go from my house to McDonalds in the Narrows Shopping Center I have to get up early the day before to plan to get there in time for dinner the next day. I hit light after light, grinding my brakes down until they gouge the rotors. I think we all know how much that costs to get fixed? Plenty!

One of the worst roads for red lights is Wyoming Ave in Kingston. There is a friggin red light on almost every corner. When I drive up or down the Ave I fly into a fit of Road Rage every time. Forget about moving with any type of pace on this street especially during times of high traffic volume. From Welles St in Forty Fort to Kingston Corners there are 8 traffic lights in a one mile stretch. That's INSANE! I have to down some Prozac and a six pack just to not explode every time I drive that stretch of road.

Another street I dread driving on is Wilkes-Barre Blvd. Along with the cratered road surface, you have red light after red light. On this thoroughfare of despair there are 5 traffic lights between the Cross Valley exit and E. Market St. I guess they had to put so many lights on this street to keep us from getting up any speed thus destroying our vehicles on the multitude of potholes. I try to avoid WB Blvd at all costs. Its like avoiding the bubonic plague.

I could go on and on and on about all of the red lights I hit everyday in my travels throughout NEPA but I won't. If I do, my brain will start to leak out of my ears. Just thinking about it makes my blood boil. I just may have had road rage sitting here at my kitchen table writing this Gripe. I just went outside and screamed obscenities at a guy walking down the street. I CAN'T TAKE IT ANYMORE!

  1. I once made it from Suzie Q's in the Narrows to Market St in Kingston without hitting a single red light. The starts were aligned that day.

  2. Every blue moon you can catch all greens. Speaking of Back Mountain, I went out to Williamsport on Saturday and it took me 22 minutes to go 7/10's of a mile on the Luzerne-Dallas Highway. There were 7 traffic lights in that stretch. Of course I hit them all but one.

  3. The worst time is in the early morning and there is absolutely no traffic and you hit every light. How annoying when all you want to do is get to work on time for once!!
